Highlights

The Welcome to Michigan
Program consists of over 200 events that offer something for everyone.
The "Anchor Events" listed below are planned to include
the entire freshman class, all first-year students are strongly
encouraged to attend. All other events are sponsored by student
groups, University departments, or community agencies. For a complete
list of all events and descriptions, see UM*Events.
If you have a disability which requires an accommodation, e.g. an interpreter or large print materials, please call Services for Students with Disabilities at (734) 763-3000 and ask for Jill Rice. This request needs to be made two weeks prior to the event in order to make arrangements. All events are held in accessible facilities. New Student Convocation and the 10 a.m. Day of CHANGE Keynote feature open captioning and American Sign Language interpretation.

New Student Convocation
- Thursday, August 28, 7pm, Crisler Arena
This is
the official kick-off to Welcome to Michigan and an introduction
to the academic community. This ceremony is a Michigan tradition
that includes messages from the president of the University, student
government president, and several other representatives. Students
and their families are invited to dine together in the Michigan
League prior to Convocation. Following the ceremony, students will
head to Central Campus for Escapade & Artscapade.

Artscapade - Thursday,
August 28, 8pm, Regent's Plaza
This
event occurs right after Convocation and is a great introduction
to the arts at Michigan. Music, interactive games, and art projects
for you to create are all part of this fantastic event. Right outside

Escapade - Thursday,
August 28, 8pm, Michigan Union
Experience
a U tradition - Escapade at the Michigan Union! The fun-filled night
includes exciting activities: concert, music, dance party, novelty
shows and variety attractions, arts and crafts, student organizations
and more with food and refreshments from 8pm till midnight. Sponsored by University
Unions Arts & Programs: Division of Student Affairs.

Academic Programs Day

This
day is designed to offer new students activities/events that pertain
to their area of study and/or career interests. Start the academic
year off right by taking advantage of these programs.

Maize Craze - Friday,
August 29, 4-6:30pm, Palmer Field
You're
not a Michigan Student until you experience Maize Craze! This outdoor
pep rally before for tomorrow's game has become a major tradition
and is guaranteed to make you laugh, sweat, and have a great time!
Listen to the Marching Band, meet athletic coaches, participate
in different activities, win prizes and eat dinner all at the same
place!

Meijer Madness - Friday,
August 29, 9pm-1am, Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. Meijer
Need
to buy those last-minute dorm items? Want to win free prizes? Well
this is the event for you! UM has teamed up with Meijer
(area's largest mega-store) to present a night filled with shopping,
games, music, free food, tons of prizes, and more! The event starts
at 9pm and lasts until 1am. We provide continuous shuttle service
all night.

UMix Rock the Night - Saturday, August 30, Midnight-1:30 a.m., Michigan League & Pierpont Commons
Come
dance the night away at the Michigan League or Pierpont Commons at your first UMix late-night party!
A different style of music will be offered at each location for
you to find your groove. Different games and activities will also
be ongoing. Sponsored by University

Recreational Sports
Expo - Sunday, August 31, 11am-2pm, Palmer Field
Rec
Sports Expo is an effort to provide new students information about
all our programs and services. Our staff will be on hand to talk
to everyone about their specific area or program, answer any questions,
provide options and information, and just chat about what we offer.
It also provides our 35 Club Sports a chance to recruit new students,
and our other programs (Intramurals, Outdoor Adventures, and Challenge
Program) to highlight their upcoming events. Join the fun and see
what's available for you within Rec

The Great Indoors -
Sunday, August 31, 4 - 6 pm, Shapiro Library
Come
and Explore The Great Indoors at the Shapiro
Library! The library can be confusing, but with the right tour guide, you'll find yourself on the path to wild and wonderful things! Library staff will be giving tours and will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the library.
We'll also have a DDR tournament, digital cameras to check out for a flickr
5 photo story contest (or bring your own camera), and a book design workshop. We'll even have free pizza!

Taste of Michigan - Sunday, August 31, 6 - 8 pm, Palmer Field
Get a flavor for some of Michigan’s best. Stop by to sample local restaurants and learn about two great ways to get involved on campus. While you are there, experience the talent of a variety of student performance groups and enter for a chance to win great prizes. Sponsored by Office of Greek Life, Division of Student Affairs and LSA Student Government.

Day of C.H.A.N.G.E.! - Monday, September 1
Creating a Healthy and New Generation of Equality
- Multicultural Programs Day
A Day of C.H.A.N.G.E. provides ALL students with the opportunity
to connect with Michigan's commitment to diversity. Join us at these
events to celebrate and appreciate this central, long-term ethic
at Michigan by bringing together the campus community in educational
and social events.
Keynote Speaker Dr. Maura Cullen: In the spirit of CHANGE

Mendelssohn Theatre, Michigan League
We are caught in times of political correctness, where "saying' the right things are worlds away from "doing" the right thing. Considered one of the most inclusive sessions on diversity, you will learn how the human spirit can build coalitions, not blame, with groups who never thought they had anything in common with one another.
Extravaganza for CHANGE

Stop by campus and community organization tables to take part in quick activities
and learn about making CHANGE on campus.
Exploration Stations
11:30am – 3:30pm Michigan League Hussey Room
Sign on to the Exploration Stations, sponsored by Apple, to learn about creating CHANGE around the world on-line. Have some fun taking online quizzes to find out your Ecological Footprints and more!!

Creative Expressions

Come and have some fun participating or observing in the creation of interactive theatre sketches about issues of identity.

Join Dr. Cullen to delve further into the spirit of CHANGE by learning how to move your awareness into everyday action.

The Residence Halls Association
(RHA) invites you to come out to Palmer Field for the best party

Taste of Culture - Sunday, September 14, 2-6pm, William Monroe Trotter Multicultural Center
You and your family are invited to the Trotter Multicultural Center (1443 Washtenaw Ave.) to celebrate the commencing of another exciting and eventful year at the University of Michigan. There will be live entertainment, music, food, inflatable obstacle courses/games, PS2 games, face painting, caricature drawings, and many more!
