Parents of Transfer Students
Transfer Student Parent & Family Orientation Winter 2014
Congratulations on your student's admission to the University of Michigan for the Winter 2014 term! The Office of New Student Programs will send your student an invitation via email to attend a transfer student orientation, which is required for all new transfer students.
We also offer orientation programs for parents, spouses, and other adult family members of transfer students. We believe that family members play a significant role in a transfer student's adjustment to a new university. This program will offer you information that will help you support your student during his or her transition to the University of Michigan.
We offer several 1-day Transfer Orientation programs in December. For each 1-day Transfer Orientation program, there is a corresponding 1-day Transfer Parent & Family Orientation program. We strongly encourage transfer students to attend a 1-day Transfer Orientation if it is offered by their academic school/college.Information about the Transfer Parent & Family Orientation program in December is listed below. For more information about the student program in December, click here.
For students who are unable to attend a Transfer Orientation program in December, we offer a 2-day Winter Orientation program on January 6 - January 7 for freshmen and international students. Transfer students unable to attend a Transfer Orientation program in December are required to attend this 2-day program in January.Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a Transfer Parent & Family Orientation program in January. Transfer students in the Residential College or the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance are required to attend the 2-day program in January. Using a Bidding System for Airline Tickets
ONSP strongly recommends that you do NOT use airline ticket services that do not allow you to pick specific arrival and departure times. If you cannot choose specific travel times, you may end up with an itinerary that causes you to miss a portion of the orientation program. Students are required to attend the full orientation program, and we may require that students attend another program if the student cannot do so. Do not purchase a ticket where the company determines flight times. We will not make any special accommodations, and ONSP will not be responsible for costs associated with attending another orientation program and/or booking another flight.
