Online Spanish Placement Exam

Results from the online Spanish placement exam are used to determine which course level is appropriate for your skills, since students have had different experiences learning Spanish. After taking the exam, you will not see your placement immediately, but will receive it during orientation.  Please know that you may be randomly selected to speak, in Spanish, with a representative of the Department of Romance Languages & Literatures during orientation to verify your placement.

The exam will be available beginning November 3, 2017

Who is required to take the exam?

All students who have taken Spanish in high school and beyond and plan to enroll in a Spanish course at UM-Ann Arbor MUST take the exam if required by your academic school/college. If you do not complete the exam before orientation, you may not be allowed to register for a Spanish course.

What if I have AP credit or IB credit?

If you have received your AP/IB test scores already, the website: indicates the level at which you are eligible to enroll. You must still take the Spanish placement exam to determine which course we would recommend; however, your AP/ IB placement could override your placement.

What if I take the test, but decide not to enroll in a Spanish course right away?

Your placement results will remain valid, and you may enroll in the recommended course at a later term. Please understand that you may not take the Spanish placement exam more than once.
