^Transfer students in these schools/colleges are required to take language placement exams if you have ANY previous experience with these languages, regardless of previous credit received.

** College of Engineering students do not need to take language placement exams; however, you may receive academic credit if you take the exam and score well on it.  School of Information students who have an interest in taking the exam (for example, if you plan to minor in a language) may do so if they want.

 

++ School of Education transfer students who will be continuing your studies in mathematics, or if you are seeking teacher certification in mathematics, are required to take the math placement exam. School of Education students who do not intend to take math courses at Michigan are not required to take the placement exam.

 

% School of Education transfer students who will be continuing your studies in a world language, or if you are seeking teacher certification in a world language, are required to take the language placement exam. School of Education students who do not intend to take language courses at Michigan are not required to take the language placement exam.

 

^^ Transfer students entering any of the Performing Arts Technology Programs (PAT) in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance MUST take the math exam. Other students in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance are not required to take the math placement.

 

%% Transfer students studying Piano or Voice Performance, Musical Theatre, or Theatre Performance (Acting) in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, are required to take a language placement exam. Other SMTD students are not required to take a language placement exam, but are encouraged to do so if you have any previous experience with these languages.
