International Parent & Family Orientation Overview

The Office of New Student Programs and the International Center believe that parents, as well as other family members, play a significant role in a student’s adjustment to the University of Michigan. Whether you are sending your first or last child off to college, our Fall Term International Parent & Family Orientation Program offers you information that will help you support your student during his or her transition to the University of Michigan.

During the program, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Meet with representatives from a wide variety of departments on campus including University Housing, International Center, University Health Service, and the Division of Public Safety and Security
  • Learn more about academic programs
  • Speak with current U-M students about their experiences
  • Become familiar with the campus and its facilities

The International Parent & Family Orientation program is designed to answer your questions and concerns about academics and student life at U-M. To make sure the program is as focused as possible; we do not recommend that young children attend Parent & Family Orientation. Also, since child-care services are not available, we do not recommend bringing very young children with you.

Please Note: The International Parent & Family Orientation Program is conducted in English and no translation services are available.

Orientation Date

The campus-wide International Parent & Family Orientation program begins on TBD for parents of all International Orientation program participants. The program is free.

In addition, parents and family members of transfer students in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts are welcome to attend their student's orientation program for the morning sessions on TBD and take advantage of optional sessions we will offer that afternoon. We invite parents to explore the campus and Ann Arbor Thursday - Sunday.  Parents should then attend the international sessions on TBD for all of the morning activities and the specific parent and family program in the afternoon if desired.
