All new freshmen admitted to the Summer Term must attend Summer Term Orientation, except for students admitted to the Summer Bridge Program. Summer Bridge students should contact that program directly regarding its orientation information.
All other freshmen must attend Summer Term Orientation. Summer Term Orientation will serve as an introduction to the University community, giving you a capsulated view of the variety of opportunities available to you. During orientation, you will complete all necessary procedures for class registration including placement testing, general information sessions, and academic advising. Orientation also gives you a chance to meet other new students.
Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. in the lobby of Mary Markley Hall. The first day will include general welcome and informational meetings, sessions about money and finances at Michigan, a walking tour, placement exams, and an evening theater troupe performance about campus life. The second day focuses on academics at Michigan, including a general informational session, and specific sessions with your school or college. The third day will consist of individual academic advising appointments and course registration.
Freshmen admitted to the Summer Term for 2013 must attend orientation from Monday, June 24 - Wednesday, June 26. Summer Term courses begin on Thursday, June 27.

Orientation is based in Mary Markley Hall for the summer. You are not required to stay in Markley during orientation, but you will be required to eat meals there. Here are your housing options during Summer Half-Term Freshman Orientation:
If you wish to stay in Markley during orientation, simply select the housing option when registering for orientation. If you do not stay with us, you will be charged a fee, which covers program costs and eight meals; you must cover the cost of your own housing. If you decide NOT to stay in Markley, do not indicate that you will require housing during orientation when registering. Please consider your decision carefully before you register. Once you indicate that you will not be staying in Markley during the program, we cannot guarantee a space for you should you change your mind.
If you have a condition that might affect your participation in orientation, ONSP will coordinate any arrangements you may need while you are on campus June 24-26. Services may include extended time testing and testing assistance, accessible rooms, refrigerators for medication, and close captioning of orientation videos. Please note: There will be walking involved with both the student and parent programs. If you are using crutches or need the assistance of a wheelchair, we can make those arrangements as well.
You can contact our office regarding necessary arrangements in two ways: First, you can mark the appropriate box during web registration, and we will contact you prior to your program to discuss your needs. You can also contact our office directly to indicate your needs. Because some arrangements take time to complete, please contact us at least two weeks in advance of your assigned date. Accommodations made during orientation do not reflect how those same accommodations will be made during the school year. It is important that students with disabilities contact the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (G-664 Haven Hall, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1045; 734- 763-3000) to discuss school year needs.
Students who have paid their enrollment deposit will begin receiving orientation information to their UMICH email account in mid-April. This email will instruct students to proceed to the Undergraduate Orientation section of Wolverine Access. The online orientation information will provide students with detailed instructions on the registration process. In order to register for orientation, you will need your U-M uniqname and password. Information about your uniqname will be emailed to you by Information Technology Services (ITS) shortly after you pay your enrollment deposit. You will receive a confirmation of your assigned orientation date via email within one week of registering for orientation. Your confirmation email will include specific information regarding check-in, parking, and what to bring to orientation.
